OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil FOR FURNITURE - raw wood effect oil for naturally light furniture and stairs
Inspired by Scandinavian interior design, it preserves OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil FOR FURNITURE the natural appearance of light-colored woods. The surface looks untreated and resembles freshly sanded wood in appearance and feel. Even on deeply brushed and textured oak, the pores are barely emphasized with a whitish tone. This creates a calm, natural raw wood look without a limed effect.
Which woods and applications is OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil FOR FURNITURE suitable for?
Whether it is a dining table, stair tread or favorite piece of furniture: the water-based raw wood effect oil is suitable for solid wood furniture, tabletops, stair treads, wall panels and trim in living areas. It goes well with light woods such as maple, oak, ash, spruce and fir. The wood should be untreated or completely sanded back. For wooden floors, use OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil CLASSIC.
How does OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil FOR FURNITURE change the look and feel of the wood?
Do you like wood just the way it is? Scandic-Oil enhances the natural wood tone only slightly and gives the surface an untreated appearance. You can still feel the wood structure when touching it. With OLI NATURA® Refresher you can refresh the oiled surface as needed.
Tip: Try the oil with a 20-ml sampler to a piece of leftover wood from your project. Sand it in the same way as the final surface and assess the result only after it has dried completely.
Would you like to emphasize the natural wood tone more strongly? OLI NATURA® hardwax oil gives the wood a richer color and highlights the grain.
How easy is OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil FOR FURNITURE to apply?
Oil twice and finish the application in one day: Apply Scandic-Oil with a brush, foam roller or by spraying to freshly sanded, absorbent wood. After about two hours, you can apply oil a second time. One liter is sufficient for approximately 8–12.5 m², depending on the type of wood, sanding and absorbency. Find out how intermediate sanding and polishing work in the tab Application.
When is OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil FOR FURNITURE with hardener recommended?
On tabletops and wherever grease splashes are expected, use Scandic-Oil with OLI NATURA® H2O-Hardener. We also recommend adding hardener for stair treads. Mix ten parts oil to one part hardener. The hardener supports curing throughout and can make the surface more resistant to water, grease and other everyday stresses.

What is the difference between OLI-NATURA Scandic-Oil »Classic« and »For Furniture«?
Both are based on the same formulation. »Classic« is more fluid, making it ideal for roller application on floors (parquet, floorboards), and it has also proven effective for treating wall panels. »For Furniture« is more viscous and optimized for furniture and stairs, making it well suited for brush and spray application with good staying power on vertical surfaces.
Is OLI-NATURA Scandic-Oil »For Furniture« new?
Only the viscosity is new, enabling easier spreading and better staying power. The product itself has been available since 2017, primarily for roller applications in workshops and industry.
Are samples available for testing?
Yes, sample bottles can be requested from OLI-NATURA to test the finish.
Which types of wood is OLI-NATURA Scandic-Oil suitable for?
Scandic-Oil is especially ideal for light-colored woods such as oak, ash, silver fir, or spruce. It creates the raw wood effect - the wood looks untreated and yellows less. Scandic-Oil is also recommended for walnut if you want to preserve the natural wood color with as little enhancement as possible.
How is the raw wood effect created?
The oil is a water-based emulsion made from natural oils with a low white content. It minimizes color enhancement and yellowing, making the wood look as it does in its raw state.
Does Scandic-Oil change the color of the wood?
It barely intensifies or changes the color of light-colored woods. A slight deepening appears while wet but disappears again as it dries.
How much coverage does Scandic-Oil provide?
Approx. 40–80 g/m² per coat. Two coats are recommended. Coverage per liter: 12–25 m² (1 coat) or 6–12 m² (2 coats). This depends on the type of wood, sanding, and absorbency.
What should be considered during application?
Prepare the surfaces cleanly and carefully. Do not apply the oil too thickly or thinly. With »For Furniture«, sand by hand between coats to avoid sanding through. Since the oil sets quickly, pad the second coat directly while the first is still wet. Remove excess and allow sufficient curing time.
Can Scandic-Oil be used with hardener?
Yes. Scandic-Oil can be used with OLI-NATURA H2O-Hardener in a mixing ratio of 10:1. This shortens the curing time and increases the surface's resistance.
Why does the color deepen during application?
Due to the water content, the wood appears darker while wet. This effect disappears as it dries.
Why intermediate sanding?
The water content causes the wood fibers to rise. Intermediate sanding improves the final result.
How long does Scandic-Oil take to dry?
Dust-dry after approx. 1 hour; fully cured after about 5 days. Depending on the temperature, humidity, and application thickness.
Is the product subject to labeling requirements?
No. It is not classified as hazardous, does not require GHS pictograms or signal words, and is not classified as dangerous goods.
Does Scandic-Oil contain oximes or cobalt?
No. It is cobalt- and oxime-free. It complies with DIN EN 71-3 (toy safety) and DIN 53160 (saliva- and perspiration-resistant). Approved by the DIBt, Giscode Ö10+, and listed in the Baubook as an ecological building product.
Is Scandic-Oil suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food?
Yes. It complies with the LFGB, DIN 53160 (saliva- and perspiration-resistant), and DIN EN 71-3. Once cured, it is safe for kitchen surfaces and toys.
Does Scandic-Oil have a strong odor?
It has a very mild odor. The odor during oxidation is harmless and disappears after curing.
Is there a risk of spontaneous combustion with Scandic-Oil?
No. As a water-based oil, it poses no risk of spontaneous combustion for rags, pads, or cloths.
How should a surface treated with Scandic-Oil be maintained?
Wipe off dust with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Vacuum or sweep floors regularly. For cleaning, use OLI-NAT
