»OLI-NATURA wood soap« or OLI-NATURA wood care wax

    PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Oil + Wax: As the name suggests, the solvent-free »HS hardwax oil« combines the properties of natural oils (90%) and waxes (10%). The HS designation stands for 100% High-Solid. Every single drop contains selected & highly drying plant oils that cure to a tough, elastic finish in the wood and provide the floor with deep, internal protection. The wax remains on the surface and forms an additional protective film.

The oxygen-cured natural oil surface is particularly robust and emphasizes the wood's natural appearance. The natural oil surface is particularly durable, hard-wearing, and healthy for indoor living. The wood can absorb and release room humidity, feels comfortable underfoot, and can be refreshed and re-oiled repeatedly without sanding. The »HS hardwax oil« is therefore recommended for particularly heavily used solid wood floors and is also used, for example, at trade shows.

Thanks to its particularly high solids content, this film-forming impregnation is extremely economical. Ideally, maximum wood saturation is achieved with just one coat of oil. In flooring applications, it is applied with a roller or spatula and then polished with a single-disc machine. The HS hardwax oil remains "open for a long time," providing sufficient time before polishing.

The »HS hardwax oil« has been emissions-tested by DIBt and meets all criteria for professional application in the surface treatment of wooden floors. It has the highest Giscode classification, Ö10+, is listed by baubook, and is LFGB-certified. This makes it the perfect oil finish for wooden floors in kitchens and commercial food areas (catering).

Also available in colors: For coloring parquet and wooden floors, we recommend our OLI-NATURA HS hardwax oil in colors.

    APPLICATION / PROCESSING

Sand the wood surface carefully, starting with coarse sanding; final sanding for floors P100-150, for furniture P180-240. Wood moisture: 8–12%. The surface must be dry, thoroughly cleaned, and free of oil, wax, grease, silicone, and sanding dust. Apply the material at room temperature.

    • Shake/stir the container thoroughly before use.

    • Oil with a spatula, microfiber roller or Oil brush Apply evenly in a thin coat. Work in sections of 5 to 15 m². Reapply oil to dry areas.

    • Within 60-90 minutes, polish in the wet oil with a single-disc or polishing machine using a beige pad. Alternatively, you can also work with a beige Super Hand Pad under the Pad Holder for Telescopic Handle. Polish until the wood is saturated.

    • For the final polish and to remove any excess oil, polish the surface by hand or with a polishing machine using an oil-absorbing cloth or white polishing pad. No excess oil may remain on the surface.

    • Protect from water during the curing period and do not clean with a damp cloth.

Coverage: 1 coat, depending on the absorbency of the substrate, 20-40 g/m² per coat (25-50 m²/l)

Drying: Depending on the humidity and temperature, the surface is dust-dry after 1.5-2 hours and fully cured after 2-3 days. As a 2-component variant, the curing time is reduced by 24 hours.

    TIPS:

    • Optionally, the oil can be mixed with »OLI-NATURA HS Hardener« at a ratio of 10:1. After mixing, the oil has a pot life of 2-3 hours.

NOTE: Consumption depends on the type of wood, the sanding and the absorbency of the substrate. Excess material on non-absorbent areas delays drying, as do low temperatures and/or excessive air humidity and/or excessive wood moisture.

NOTICE OF THE RISK OF SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION: Oil-soaked rags/pads can spontaneously combust due to heat buildup! Therefore, clean them immediately after use or store them under water. The product itself is not self-igniting

    SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

The product is not subject to labeling requirements. The mixture is not classified as hazardous within the meaning of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008. It does not need to be labeled with GHS hazard pictograms or signal words and is not classified as dangerous goods.

    Safety instructions

Oil-soaked rags/pads can spontaneously combust due to heat buildup! Therefore, clean them immediately after use or store them under water. Keep out of reach of children. P102 Keep out of reach of children.

    CARE & CLEANING

The oiled wood surface retains its natural charm when it is cleaned and maintained regularly. Dust and adhering dirt can easily be wiped away with a dry or slightly damp, but never wet, cloth. Parquet floors, on the other hand, should be vacuumed or swept daily, as sand and dust can cause fine scratches.

Dirt can be gently removed with the concentrated “OLI-NATURA wood soap”, without damaging the wood. To renew the protective effect, the natural oil surface should be refreshed from time to time with OLI-NATURA wood care wax .

How often the wood surface needs to be maintained depends on various factors: What type of wood is the parquet made of? How frequently is it used? What kind of stress is it subjected to? Good indications that the surface needs maintenance are when its water resistance decreases or the surface feels dry and dull. It should then be recoated with oil.

    FAQ

    Brief description

    • OLI-NATURA HS hardwax oil is a solvent-free oil-wax combination that you can use to prime solid wood floors and wooden stairs naturally, in an environmentally friendly way, and healthy for indoor living. The abbreviation “HS” in the product-name stands for 100% High-Solid. This allows you to achieve maximum wood saturation with just one oil application when applied correctly. The natural wood color and grain are highlighted vividly.

What is the difference between OLI-NATURA HS hardwax oil and OLI-NATURA HS Professional Oil?

    • OLI-NATURA HS hardwax oil combines the properties of oils and waxes. While the oil preserves the wood from within, the wax hardens as a thin layer on the wood surface. The OLI-NATURA HS Professional Oil on the other hand penetrates deep into the pores and reliably protects the wood from within. It does not form a surface layer, but instead provides an open-pore impregnation.

Why is one coat of oil sufficient?

    • OLI-NATURA HS hardwax oil has the maximum High-Solid content of 100% and is therefore solvent-free. With proper application, you can therefore assume that the wood surface is fully saturated with one coat. To achieve maximum saturation and protective effect, the oil should be massaged into the wood pores with a pad.

Why is working it in with a pad recommended?

    • Due to its very high High-Solid content, the oil is somewhat more sluggish to apply and should be massaged into the wood pores with the help of a pad to saturate the wood optimally. In addition, polishing out the wax content produces an appealing surface finish.

Craftsperson's TIP: To increase penetration, warm the oil slightly shortly before applying it; do not heat it directly.

How is the HS hardwax oil applied?

    • It can be oiled in various ways. In the flooring area, it is common to apply the oil with a microfiber roller (4-5 mm), a floor brush or a spatula and then work it in with a single-disc machine.

What should be taken into account during application?

    • In general, the application instructions in the technical data sheet should be followed. Surface preparation and sanding should always be carried out cleanly and carefully to achieve an optimal surface finish. Excessive or insufficient oil application should also be avoided. After the specified waiting time, the oil application must be wiped off without leaving any residue while still wet. Oil that is no longer absorbed by the wood and can no longer be massaged in should be wiped in the direction of the grain with a cotton cloth or Oil-absorbent cloth remove. Give the oiled surface the necessary time to cure.

What is the coverage of the HS hardwax oil?

    • Depending on the area of application, the wood sanding and the wood's absorption, approximately 20 g/m²-40 g/m² are sufficient. That is around 25-50 m² per liter. The coverage of the High-Solid hardwax oil is therefore very high. In addition, with proper application, you only need to apply one coat of oil. This makes the oil very efficient.
    • INFO: All information in our technical data sheets refers to smooth, sanded wood surfaces. Other surfaces may result in a different coverage rate. Naturally, it also depends on the wood itself. Every type of wood has its own natural characteristics and absorption behavior, which to a large extent determine how strongly and evenly the oil can penetrate the wood. Beech, for example, has high and uneven absorption behavior. Oak and ash, on the other hand, behave more favorably. It also makes a difference whether you are oiling end grain or using solid wood or veneer. In addition, the sanding of the wood has a major influence on the wood's absorbency.

What is the most common application error?

    • The most common mistake is failing to remove excess oil after the penetration time. The result is sticky surfaces and drying problems.

    Tip for professionals:

    • Whatever the wood absorbs, it must receive. Whatever the wood does not absorb must be removed while still wet.

Can I apply a new coat directly over an unknown finish?

    • No, if, for example, the existing finish is a film-forming lacquer, the oil cannot penetrate the wood pores. Therefore, the old finish must be completely and carefully sanded off before applying the oil. The oil always requires an absorbent substrate.

    Are samples available for testing?

    • Yes, on request, you can get one from OLI-NATURA Sample bottle to order in order to test the finish.

Does HS hardwax oil change the color of the wood?

    • Yes, although the oil is not pigmented, it vividly emphasizes the wood grain and color (enhances the natural tone). The resulting color tone and enhancement strongly depend on the base tone of the wood being oiled.

How long does HS hardwax oil take to dry?

    • Depending on the humidity and temperature, the surface is dust-dry after 1-2 hours and fully cured after 2-3 days. During this time, handle it gently and protect it from water.
    • INFO: How quickly the oil dries and cures completely essentially depends on three conditions: temperature, air humidity, and application thickness. The optimal application conditions are +20°C and 50% relative humidity. The oil should be applied at room temperature. In addition, the object temperature should not be below +15°C. Since the oil cures through the absorption of atmospheric oxygen, good ventilation and an optimal room temperature promote the oxidative reaction. Low air movement, increased humidity, and low temperatures can, on the other hand, slow down complete curing.

Is the product subject to labeling requirements?

    • No, it does not require labeling. The mixture is not classified as hazardous within the meaning of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008. It does not need to be labeled with GHS hazard pictograms or signal words and is not classified as dangerous goods.

Does HS hardwax oil contain oximes and cobalt?

    • No, HS hardwax oil is manufactured without cobalt compounds or oximes. The dried coating is harmless to people, animals and plants, complies with DIN EN 71-3 (toy safety) and DIN 53160 (saliva and perspiration resistance), and is LFGB-certified (food-safe).

HS hardwax oil has the highest Giscode classification, Ö10+. It is a construction product approved by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) and an ecological construction product listed by Baubook.

Is HS hardwax oil suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food?

    • Yes, our OLI-NATURA HS hardwax oil is LFGB-certified (food-safe) and can therefore be applied without concern to surfaces that come into contact with food.

Does HS hardwax oil have an odor?

    • Yes, you can track the oil's drying process by smell. The odor is particularly noticeable during oxidation and also depends significantly on the type of wood used and the surface area. However, the odor is completely harmless and disappears once the oil has cured.

    • INFO: As the oil cures by absorbing oxygen from the air, good ventilation accelerates the oil's complete curing. Insufficient air supply, high humidity and low temperatures, on the other hand, can slow complete curing and lead to a long-lasting odor. Applying too much oil to the wood and excessive wood moisture can also hinder complete curing and lead to a long-lasting odor.

Is there a risk of spontaneous combustion with HS hardwax oil?

    • Yes, oil-soaked rags and cloths can spontaneously ignite due to heat buildup. The oxidatively drying oil naturally hardens by absorbing oxygen from the air. This generates heat, which is normally released into the surroundings and is completely harmless. However, in oil-soaked and crumpled rags, cloths, pads, or sponges, the heat cannot escape, so under unfavorable circumstances they may spontaneously ignite. Therefore, never leave oily cloths or rags lying around carelessly; soak them in water, hang them outdoors, and allow them to dry. Once treated this way, they can be disposed of safely after drying. Alternatively, oil-soaked rags and sponges can be stored under water or temporarily kept in an airtight container. The product itself, however, is not self-igniting.

How should a surface oiled with HS hardwax oil be maintained?

    • Dust deposits can simply be wiped off with a dry, slightly damp, but never wet cloth. Parquet floors, on the other hand, should be vacuumed or swept daily. With concentrated »OLI-NATURA wood soap« Adhering dirt can be gently removed without damaging the wood. To refresh oiled wood, we recommend »OLI-NATURA Wood Care Wax«. Good indications that the surface needs care are: when water resistance decreases, the depth of color fades, and/or the surface feels dry and brittle.

How do I clean the work tools, such as brushes, etc.?

    • To clean brushes and work tools after applying OLI-NATURA HS hardwax oil, we recommend our environmentally friendly OLI-NATURA brush cleaner or our OLI-NATURA oil thinner, as well as cleaners and thinners based on white spirit.

How long is HS hardwax oil shelf-stable?

    • 36 months in the sealed original container. Opened containers should be resealed airtight immediately, protected from sunlight, and used up as quickly as possible.

Where do I dispose of the container?

    • Empty cans can be disposed of with household waste or, preferably, recycled (yellow bin or yellow bag). If a small amount of viscous material remains in the can, leave the can open to dry out and then dispose of it. Product residues and packaging must be disposed of in accordance with local official regulations (EU waste code no. 08 01 12).
