OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil CLASSIC - raw wood effect oil for naturally light parquet and plank floors
Inspired by Scandinavian interior design, OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil CLASSIC preserves the natural appearance of light-coloured wooden floors. The surface looks untreated and resembles freshly sanded wood in appearance and feel. Even on deeply brushed and textured oak, the pores are barely highlighted in white. This creates a calm, natural raw wood look without a limed effect.
Which woods and applications is OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil CLASSIC suitable for?
Whether parquet in the living room or planks in the bedroom: the water-based raw wood effect oil is suitable for solid wood parquet and plank floors in interior areas. It is suitable for light-coloured woods such as oak, ash, birch, Douglas fir, spruce, silver fir and pine. The wood must be clean and absorbent; completely remove old film-forming coatings. For furniture and stairs, choose OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil FOR FURNITURE.
How does OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil CLASSIC change the appearance and feel of the wood?
Do you like wood just the way it is? Scandic-Oil only slightly intensifies the natural wood tone and largely preserves its original colour. The surface remains open-pore and the wood structure remains perceptible to the touch. With OLI NATURA® Refresher you can refresh the oiled floor as needed. Would you like to emphasize the wood tone more strongly? OLI NATURA® hardwax oil gives the wood a richer colour and enhances the grain.
How easy is OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil CLASSIC to apply?
Apply Scandic-Oil twice with a short-pile oil/wax roller onto the freshly sanded, absorbent wood. After approximately two to three hours, you can oil a second time - you can complete both applications in one day. One litre is sufficient for approximately 6–8.5 m², depending on the type of wood, sanding and absorbency. You can find all steps in the tab Application.
When is OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil CLASSIC with hardener recommended?
For more heavily used floors process Scandic-Oil with OLI NATURA® H2O-Hardener. Mix ten parts oil to one part hardener. The additional cross-linking supports curing throughout and may increase resistance to everyday stresses.
What else distinguishes OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil CLASSIC?
Scandic-Oil is VOC-free, low-odor, emissions-tested and declared in baubook – for a conscious choice of materials in ecological construction. The pigmentation is UV-stable. Oil-soaked pads and cloths are not prone to spontaneous combustion.

How do you care for and clean floors treated with OLI NATURA® Scandic-Oil CLASSIC?
Oiled wood floors are easy to care for and easy to repair. Re-oiling refreshes the surface. Small scratches can usually be sanded and re-oiled locally - without treating the entire floor again.
Cleaning: Protect from water and do not clean with a damp cloth until fully cured. Vacuum or sweep regularly so that sand does not cause fine scratches. If needed, clean slightly damp, not wet with OLI NATURA® wood soap . Avoid aggressive or abrasive cleaners.
Everyday protection: Wipe up spilled liquids immediately and avoid standing moisture. Felt pads under furniture help prevent scratches.
Initial care and refreshing: After overnight drying initial care with OLI NATURA® Refresher is possible. If water repellency decreases later or the wood appears dry and dull, refresh the floor with it. Apply a thin coat to the clean, dry surface.
Repair: Lightly sand small scratches and worn areas locally, remove dust thoroughly, and re-oil with the same oil used for the initial treatment .

What distinguishes OLI-NATURA Scandic-Oil »Classic« from »For Furniture«?
Both variants are based on the same formula but differ in viscosity and thixotropy:
Are test samples available?
Sample bottles can be ordered on request to test the finish.
How is the raw wood effect achieved?
OLI-NATURA Scandic-Oil is a water-based emulsion made from natural oils that causes very little darkening. A small amount of white pigment further reduces darkening and prevents the wood from yellowing prematurely. The wood pores are not colored white and do not stand out. This preserves the wood's original appearance, which creates the raw wood effect.
Does Scandic-Oil change the color of the wood?
The color may deepen during application, but this disappears as the coating dries.
Which types of wood is Scandic-Oil suitable for?
For light-colored woods such as oak, fir, ash, and spruce. On red oak, Scandic-Oil may produce a slight pink tint. On dark woods, the white pigments may cause a gray haze.
How many coats are recommended, and what is the coverage of Scandic-Oil?
Two coats are recommended, with intermediate sanding before the second coat. Consumption is approximately 60–80 g/m² per coat, corresponding to about 12–15 m² per liter for one coat and 6–7 m² for two coats. Plan for a little extra oil to make sure you have enough.
INFO: Coverage varies depending on the type of wood and its treatment. Fir is highly absorbent, while oak and ash absorb less. The sanding and type of wood (end grain, solid wood, veneer) also affect absorbency, which is why only approximate values can be given.
What should be taken into account during application?
Follow the application instructions and prepare the surface carefully. Avoid applying too much or too little oil. With Scandic-Oil “For Furniture,” intermediate sanding should be done by hand, and excess oil should be removed immediately. Allow the oiled surface to cure sufficiently.
Why is intermediate sanding necessary?
Due to the water content in the oil, the wood swells during application. Intermediate sanding has a positive effect on the surface finish by removing the raised wood fibers after the wood has dried back down.
How long does Scandic-Oil take to dry?
Dust-dry after about 1 hour; fully cured after approximately 5 days. Drying time depends on temperature, humidity, and application thickness.
Is the product subject to labeling requirements?
The product is not subject to labeling requirements and is not classified as dangerous goods.
Does Scandic-Oil contain oximes or cobalt?
No, Scandic-Oil contains no cobalt-containing compounds or oximes. The dried coating is harmless to people, animals, and plants and complies with DIN EN 71-3 (safety of toys) and DIN 53160 (saliva- and perspiration-resistant). It is approved as a construction product by the German Institute for Standardization (DIBt) and meets the highest Giscode classification, Ö10+. Scandic-Oil is also listed in Baubook as an ecological construction product.
Is Scandic-Oil food-safe?
Yes, Scandic-Oil is suitable for surfaces that come into contact with food. It meets the LFGB requirements for saliva and perspiration resistance (DIN 53160-1 and -2) and, after fully curing, complies with DIN EN 71-3 (safety of toys).
Does Scandic-Oil have a strong odor?
Scandic-Oil has a mild odor. The odor that may occur during oxidation, which depends on the type of wood and the surface, is harmless and disappears after complete curing.
Is there a risk of spontaneous combustion with Scandic-Oil?
No, Scandic-Oil is a water-based, oxidatively drying oil. Therefore, there is no risk of spontaneous combustion in oil-soaked rags, pads, or cloths.
How do you care for a surface treated with Scandic-Oil?
Dust deposits are removed with a dry or slightly damp, but never wet, cloth. Parquet floors should be vacuumed or swept daily. Adhering dirt can be gently removed with concentrated »OLI-NATURA wood soap«. For the initial care and refreshing of oiled wood, we recommend »OLI-NATURA Refresher«. Signs that care is needed include reduced water resistance and a dry, brittle surface.
Does Scandic-Oil contain solvents?
Scandic-Oil is VOC-free and contains no volatile organic compounds. The natural oils are dissolved in water, which serves as the carrier and thus functions as the “solvent.”
How do I clean the work tools, such as brushes, etc.?
The brushes and work tools are easy to clean with water.
How long does Scandic-Oil last?
In its sealed original container, Scandic-Oil has a shelf life of 24 months. Opened containers should be used up promptly, resealed airtight immediately, and protected from sunlight. The storage temperature should not fall below +5 °C.
