OLI NATURA® Project Oil - deep-penetrating impregnating oil for easy oiling
Would you like to oil wood without having to spend a long time repolishing every edge? OLI NATURA® Project Oil penetrates deeply into the wood on its own and beautifully brings out the color and grain. The natural oil-based impregnating oil is also easy to apply to beveled edges and hard-to-reach areas. This is a noticeable advantage, especially for furniture with many details and for serial furniture production.
Which types of wood and applications is OLI NATURA® Project Oil suitable for?
Project Oil is suitable for almost all types of wood and many wood-based materials indoors. It can be used for doors, wall paneling, and stairs, as well as for furniture with many details - such as chairs with spindles, tables with profiled aprons, or cabinets with paneled fronts.
How does OLI NATURA® Project Oil change the appearance and feel of the wood?
OLI NATURA® Project Oil significantly enhances the natural tone of the wood and highlights the grain. Light-colored woods may consequently take on a warm, honey-colored tone. The oiled surface has a matte appearance; the wood structure remains perceptible to the touch. Tip: Test the oil in an inconspicuous area and assess the result after it has dried.
Would you like to change the natural color of the wood less? OLI NATURA® hardwax oil enhances the wood more subtly.
How easy is OLI NATURA® Project Oil to apply?
OLI NATURA® Project Oil is easy to apply with a brush or roller; small parts can also be treated with a cloth. Two coats are generally required on untreated wood; one may be sufficient for lightly used shelves and small items. One liter covers approximately 20–25 m² per coat, depending on the type of wood, sanding, and absorbency. You can find all the steps in the tab Application.
What do customers say about OLI NATURA® Project Oil?
Customers particularly appreciate OLI NATURA® Project Oil for its easy application and high coverage. Many report that the wood oil penetrates quickly and dries rapidly. They are also impressed by its excellent value for money.

Apply OLI NATURA® Project Oil
Preparation: The wood must be clean, dry and absorbent. Remove old film-forming coatings; check previously oiled surfaces for compatibility and absorbency. Do not sand furniture finer than P180 . Then thoroughly remove dust from the surface.
Optional pretreatment: If necessary, pretreat the wood with diluted OLI NATURA® PreOilCleaner . Allow to dry completely before oiling, smooth any raised wood fibers if necessary, and remove dust again. Do not use PreOilCleaner before OLI NATURA® Antique.
Tip: We recommend testing the product on an inconspicuous area of similarly prepared wood. Assess the result after drying.
Furniture, doors and stairs
- Stir the oil thoroughly.
- Apply a thin coat with a brush or roller in the direction of the grain. Apply another coat to highly absorbent areas if necessary.
- After 20–30 minutes , remove excess oil.
- A second thin coat can be applied after drying overnight.
Small parts and hard-to-reach areas: Apply the oil directly with a saturated cotton cloth.
Coverage
- On untreated wood, generally two coats of approx. 24|40–50 g/m²
- Coverage per coat: approx. 20–25 m²/l
Consumption depends on the type of wood, sanding and absorbency. For low-wear components and for renovating intact, sufficiently absorbent oiled surfaces, one coat may be sufficient.
Drying
- Dust-dry: after approx. 1–2 hours
- Recoatable: after drying overnight
- Carefully walkable: after approx. 24 hours
- Fully cured: after approx. after 5–7 days
Protect from moisture and do not clean or care for the surface with moisture until fully cured.
Application conditions: The oil, wood and room should be at +15 to +25 °C . Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
Safety - Risk of spontaneous combustion: After use, completely soak oil-soaked cloths and pads in water, then spread them out to dry outdoors. Avoid heat buildup.
Further information: Before application, refer to the technical data sheet in the "Downloads" section.
How should surfaces treated with OLI NATURA® Project Oil be cared for and cleaned?
Protect freshly oiled surfaces from water until fully cured.
Regular cleaning: Remove dust and loose dirt while dry. Vacuum or sweep parquet floors regularly to prevent sand from causing fine scratches. If needed, wipe the surface with a damp, not wet, cloth and immediately remove any standing water. For heavier soiling, use OLI NATURA® wood soap . Avoid aggressive or abrasive cleaners.
When should the surface be refreshed?
If water repellency decreases or the wood looks dry and dull, refreshing it is recommended. Clean the surface beforehand and allow it to dry completely. For oiled floors, stairs, and furniture, use OLI NATURA® wood care oil. How often refreshing is needed depends on the level of use.
How can scratches and signs of wear be repaired?
Damaged or more heavily worn areas can be spot-sanded and treated with OLI NATURA® Project Oil. Complete sanding of the surface is generally not necessary.

What is the difference between Projektöl and hardwax oil?
Projektöl protects from within as an impregnating oil and generally enhances the wood tone and grain more strongly. surface film forms. It emphasizes the wood more subtly and produces a satin-matt finish.
What is the difference between Projektöl and HS Professional Oil?
Projektöl is a medium-solid oil with approx. 60% solids content. On untreated wood, two coats are generally recommended. HS Professional Oil Natural has 100% solids content and is designed to saturate the wood, generally with one coat . Projektöl penetrates quickly and is particularly suitable for furniture and complex components; the longer open time of HS Professional Oil makes processing large surfaces easier.
Which surfaces is Projektöl suitable for?
Projektöl is suitable for new, untreated, or freshly sanded wooden surfaces indoors, such as furniture, doors, and stairs. Thanks to its easy application, it is also suitable for serial furniture production and components with pronounced bevels or complex geometry. The wood must be clean, dry, and absorbent.
Does Projektöl change the color of the wood?
Yes. Clear Projektöl enhances the wood: The color appears richer and the grain stands out more strongly. Light wood may take on a slight honey tone. The effect depends on the type of wood, its natural color, and the sanding . Therefore, apply a test coat to wood prepared in the same way and assess it after drying.
What shades are available?
In addition to Clear, four shades that can be mixed with one another are available: Walnut, Teak, Wenge, and Whitewashed. They color the wood transparently while leaving the grain visible.
Is the oiled surface waterproof?
No. The surface treated with Projektöl remains diffusion-open. After fully curing, it is water-repellent, but not waterproof. Wipe up liquids promptly and avoid standing water.
How do I prepare the wood?
The surface must be clean, dry, and absorbent. Remove lacquer, wax, and other separating residues, sand the wood evenly, and remove all dust thoroughly. The permissible wood moisture content is 8–12 %.
How do I apply lacquer, and do I need to polish afterward?
Apply lacquer thinly and evenly. After 20–30 minutes remove the excess oil and polish until the surface feels dry to the touch. Intensive polishing is not necessary; however, no excess oil should remain.
How many coats are needed?
On untreated wood, two coats are generally recommended. For lightly used components such as shelves and small parts, as well as for renovating intact, sufficiently absorbent oiled surfaces, one coat may be sufficient.
How much coverage does lacquer provide?
One liter covers around 20 m² per coatwhen applied thinly. Actual consumption depends on the type of wood, sanding, and absorbency. Plan on correspondingly more material for two coats.
Why does the surface appear shiny or sticky in places?
Oil has often remained on the wood in these areas, especially on less absorbent spots. Remove excess oil completely after the application time and polish evenly. Differences in absorbency and uneven sanding can also cause variations in sheen.
Why can lacquer be rubbed off the surface?
Lacquer must be able to penetrate the substrate. Lacquer, wax, residue from care products, or sanding that is too fine can hinder oil absorption. Any excess oil left behind may also rub off later. The cause can only be assessed based on the surface and the application process.
Why does the freshly oiled surface smell?
Lacquer cures through a reaction with oxygen in the air. During this oxidative drying a typical oil odor may develop, which decreases as curing progresses. How long it remains noticeable depends, among other things, on the wood, amount applied, temperature, and air circulation. Remove excess oil completely and ventilate well during drying.
What should I bear in mind with oil-soaked cloths and pads?
They can spontaneously ignite due to heat buildup. After use, soak them completely in water and then leave them spread out to dry outdoors. Avoid heat buildup.
