CARE FOR TEAK FURNITURE NOW

The beginning of autumn is the season to refresh teak furniture and outdoor terraces with »OLI-NATURA Yacht & Teak Oil«.

Make teak furniture winter-ready now with OLI-NATURA Yacht & teak oil

Teak is used for decking, garden furniture and boatbuilding because it is a wood with a high natural oil content and protects itself well against the effects of weather. However, over time, the natural oil content decreases and a silvery patina develops. To prevent this, the wood can be regularly treated with OLI-NATURA Yacht & Teak Oil. The exterior oil repeatedly refreshes the colour and restores the oil content of the wood, so it does not weather as quickly.

The perfect time to prepare teak furniture for winter is during dry and warm autumn days. The ideal temperature is between 15 and 25 °Celsius. Cold outdoor wood does not absorb the oil well. In addition, low temperatures make the oil viscous, preventing optimal application. Slightly warming the wood oil brings it back to “operating temperature”, allowing it to penetrate the wood on its own. For pre-oiled wood, it is sufficient to apply a light coat of oil with a cloth or brush until the wood is fully saturated. After about 20 minutes, remove any excess oil with a cotton cloth or oil-absorbing cloth, following the direction of the grain. Allow the oil several days to dry thoroughly. During this time, protect the freshly oiled wood from water so that it can cure to a tough, elastic finish in the wood.

Before you begin, clean any dirty wooden surfaces. Simply brush off loose dirt with a soft brush. Green soap or our OLI-NATURA Outdoor Cleaner removes heavier dirt. Simply add some cleaner to warm water and scrub in the direction of the grain. Then rinse thoroughly and allow to dry.

To prevent the wood from turning grey prematurely, the colourless OLI-NATURA Yacht & Teak Oil »Natural« is equipped with UV protection. Thanks to its light-stable pigments, the tinted OLI-NATURA Yacht & Teak Oil »Teak« offers even better UV protection. Unlike lacquers and glazes, neither oil forms a closed film on the surface: They penetrate deep into the wood and refill the capillaries with oil. They do not crack, peel or flake off, making re-oiling possible without sanding. Depending on how strongly the wood is exposed to wind, sun or rain, you should refresh it with oil once or twice a year.
